Top Reasons to Run The Palm Desert Half Marathon

Are you looking to add a winter half marathon to your schedule? How about a lovely place to take a racecation? Look no further than the Palm Desert Half Marathon!

Here are the top reasons to run the Palm Desert Half in 2018:

The Weather:

I have lived in a place where February means cold weather my ENTIRE life. I bust out my sweaters, long johns, and brushed running gear in November and usually don’t put it away until April. It’s hard for me to imagine a place where the average temperate in February is above 40 degrees. Ahhh, but a place like that does exist believe it or not! (I know, I had a difficult time believing it myself!)

Enter- Palm Desert, CA. With 350 days of sunshine a year and an average “winter” high of 70 degrees, you might just want to move there. But before you go and make a huge life decision, why not try it out and run the Palm Desert Half Marathon on February 11, 2018?!

The Scenery:

Runners will tour the gorgeous Palm Desert, CA including places like Civic Center Park (the start and end location) as well as famed Cochella Valley. Yes, you read that correctly, Cochella! A music lovers dream!

Free Training Plan:

The Palm Desert Half has partnered with Latitude Pure Coaching to offer all runners a free training plan that will be uploaded to a Training Peaks calendar. Runners can then check their schedules and keep track of workouts to make sure they snag a PR on race day! Latitude Pure Coaching is also offering discounted personalized training programs as well for the 1/2 marathon and 5k distances! Make sure you register before December 11th to take advantage of this benefit!

The Brick:

Triathletes will be all too familiar with this phrase. A brick is usually a bike workout followed by a run on the same day (so tough!). Challenge yourself during your racecation by competing in “The Brick” by participating in the Tour de Palm Springs on Saturday February 10th and then the Palm Desert Half Marathon on Sunday February 11th. If you complete both races (good for you!) you get “the brick,” a sweet extra award to show off your achievement! This is definitely a unique offering, you don’t want to miss it.

Swag:

As Michael Scott once said- “Swag- Stuff We All Get!” No, but seriously. There is some amazing stuff on offer for participating! All runners will receive a super race shirt and finisher medal. Plus, delicious post-race food and a free beer to all runners 21 and over. Last year’s finisher’s medal was HUGE! I can’t wait to see what runners get this year!

Everybody needs a vacation, especially in the middle of winter. Why not head out to lovely Southern California and check out Palm Desert! I bet you’ll be happy you did!
