Rock n' Roll Philly Recap

Image
My quest to run twice as many half marathons in 2017 as a I did in 2016 was a success! I can’t quite believe I did it, but Rock n’ Roll Philly marked my 4th half marathon of 2017. I still have one more on my schedule, but I am over the moon happy to have accomplished this huge goal! Two years ago I would have laughed in your face at the thought of running 4 half marathons in a year and here I am planning on running a 5th in just a months time.
I started off the weekend driving down to Philly on Friday morning to spend the weekend with my friend, Sam. We were having a brilliant weekend and had planned to get into the city early on Saturday in order to get to the expo and then maybe check out a museum. Perfect plan, yes?
Well…we were on our way when we were rear-ended at a stop light. Not the perfect thing to happen the day before a race, but we were okay. It could have turned out a lot worse than it was. Thankfully no one was hurt and we walked away with just some soreness.

Have you ever tried a subscription box? Ever since a few of my friends had tried various boxes like Stitch Fix and BirchBox, I was curious about what to expect and what goodies I could get. It was always a little nerve wracking for me to subscribe to something because what if I didn't like what I got? Would I be disappointed? Would I feel like I wasted my money? I just couldn't pull the trigger.
I was SO excited when I got the opportunity to try 5K Crate through BibRave Pros. I had heard wonderful things about 5K Crate and couldn't wait to get my box in the mail.

Each 5K Crate is $59.99 a quarter. This means you'll get 4 boxes a year if you subscribe, each tailored to a season/month. Each box is guaranteed to have 5-7 hand picked items that are worth over $100! That's just…

I have almost been hit by a car 5 times while running. I feel that when I run I am extremely careful, but you can't control other people. I always run in neon colors, if it's dark out I make sure I have a headlamp or my Knuckle Lights, and I seek out the sidewalks in my neighborhood (they are few and far between, but if you look hard enough, they're there).
When looking at my running apparel, I thought it was pretty good. I mean, it was bright and there were some strips around some zippers of reflective material. I put little faith in the "reflective logos" that companies are always writing about, but that's just me.
Thankfully, Brilliant Reflective is making it easier for everyone to be seen. Brilliant Reflective strips come 2 differen…

Training for Rock n' Roll Brooklyn

With less than 50 days until the Rock n' Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon on October 14th, 2017 my training is in full gear! I can't wait to run through the streets of Brooklyn on what I hope to be a lovely Fall day.

In the past when I've trained for races I've run (haha go figure!) and done little else to help myself. I knew cross-training and strength training were important, but wasn't it enough that I was running 20-30 (maybe more) miles a week?! Hint: it wasn't.

When I got the opportunity to extend my 2017 race schedule with Rock n' Roll Brooklyn I knew I had to change the way I trained otherwise I was going to end up injured.

I was really trying to push myself in 2017 to run 4 half marathons, 2 more than I did in 2016 (read more a…

For my entire running career I've firmly been in the "no hats" camp. I know trucker hats are all the rage and I have tried to like them and have worn them on a couple of runs when it's been really rainy, but my head overheats so quickly! I'm purely a headband only type girl.

When I got the opportunity to try the BUFF® Pack Run Cap  through the BibRave Pros I was honestly on the fence about it at first. I knew I wasn't a huge fan of hats, but when I did a little more research I decided to give it a go and see if I could be swayed.

BUFF® is known for their innovative products including the tried and true Original BUFF® as well as all of their other products that incorporate the newest and most innovative technical fabrics. Of their Pack Run Cap, BUFF® says …

Well, I decided to add another 1/2 marathon to my schedule for the year. I swore to myself that after Rock n' Roll Philly in September I was going to be D-O-N-E DONE with 1/2 marathons for a little bit. Rock n' Roll Chicago was SO fun and I was itching to add another race to my schedule. And then I got the opportunity to run Rock n' Roll Brooklyn on October 14, 2017 as part of being a BibRave Pro I KNEW I had to take it!
So why did I decide to run another race? Great question!
The Course is AMAZING: Though I've spent a lot of time in Manhattan and New York state over the years since my husband's family is from the area, I've really never been to Brooklyn (except for a REALLY terrifying 3am subway ride...but that's a different story…
