Johnny Kelley Half Marathon Training- Week 3

Wow, I had tried legs this week! But tired legs are an opportunity to learn about how you run under pressure and how to better pace yourself, so I took this opportunity to really pay attention to by body and work harder on my pacing strategies.

So, what happened this week?

Monday: 30 minutes elliptical, strength training
Finally! A Monday off from work! That meant time at the gym in the AM before trivia in the PM. It was great to get in some strength training specifically focusing on my glutes and core. I definitely need it.

Tuesday: 5 miles
1 mile warm up, 2 miles at tempo, 1 mile a bit slower...then :20 sec sprint, 2 min slow x4. Phew!! CRAZY! My legs were jell-o after. Oh! And I got a new Garmin Forerunner 235. It's everything I ever wanted and more.

Hello Gorgeous!

Wednesday:
4 miles
After Tuesday's session, I was surprised I could get any speed going at all. My schedule called for 4 tempo miles, which I really tried my hardest to do, but my legs were so tired. So really my tempo miles were a little slower than I wanted them to be.

Thursday: Yoga
Man did my body need this. I had been missing yoga the past few weeks and I was really looking forward to this! It was a tough class, but I am so glad I got to go.

Friday: 4 miles
Friday was 4 easy miles. And I really wanted to take easy to heart. Too bad I ate something bad at lunch. Bleh. So it was way more difficult than I wanted it to be. But my pace was pretty much where I wanted it to be and I ran by the ocean, which is a win for me.
One of my favorite beaches on the Cape. I love running past it.

Saturday: Rest day

Sunday: 8 miles
I was only supposed to do 7. But I had a bunch of energy after work and it was a sunny day. So I headed down to the Cape Cod Canal and thought to myself, hey, why not go for 8? I like even numbers way more than odd numbers anyways. So I went for 8. And once my mental game was on, my body just followed. My pacing was great, even though I ran directly into the wind the first 4 miles. I was FROZEN! But overall, a great run!
A wonderful end to my long run. The colors were fantastic!

Total Mileage: 21 miles

I would say that tired legs led to a pretty darn good week. Super happy with my mileage. Now I just need to add a bit more stretching and maybe a tad more strengthening into my routine!

-Happy Running!
